Online Craps

Craps - Online CrapsSome games in casinos stand out among the crowd of slot machines and watery drinks. Craps is a glamour game -- the game of the cool guy with the fat bankroll and six women on each arm. ("Online craps" is a little bit different, but we'll cover that later in this article.)

If you're going to play craps online for money at a casino make sure the online casino is licensed and regulated by a major Governement authroitty such as Antigua or UK. Before playing craps on the web you should take some time to learn about craps strategies. If you do you'll be better off because you'll be armed with the knowledge of craps bet odds. This will help you to place the smart wagers, avoid the sucker bets, and have more fun with online craps.

Craps is a simple dice-based betting game rooted in many different traditional games. Cultures as diverse as 18th century France and the Roman Empire claim some contribution to the game we now call "craps".  Most experts agree that the name comes from the French word "crapeau", or "Toad". Online craps is a relatively new pursuit in the thousand year history of the game, but one which has been profitable casino operators and entertaining for online gamblers.

Craps is popular in casinos because it breeds excitement -- players jump up and down, scream, perform strange luck rituals, kiss one another, and do any number of outlandish things. Something about the game, be it the roll of the dice or the camaraderie of hoping for the same outcome, excites players. Playing craps online removes this element of the game, and for some users this is a deal breaker. The house edge for craps is a complex statistic, but suffice to say the house edge works out between 1.4 and 17% -- not the worst game in the casino, but not the best, either. Online craps players still play craps, even though a hot blonde isn't leaning over their arm.

Playing Craps Online

Playing craps online is not much different from playing live. Modern animation and computer programming techniques make for a variety of experiences. Online craps rooms are available as realistic or as cartoony as you want, and almost always available for real money and play money play.

Craps is the fastest-moving of traditional casino table games. The average speed at a busy blackjack table runs about 60 hands per hour. Online craps tables have been clocked at over 100 decisions per hour, which is only slightly higher than live play. This is exciting for those looking to play craps online, as it ensures that the game you're playing online is as exciting as it can possibly be.

A traditional American craps casino table offers many betting options, and online casinos follow this setup religiously. All sorts of color schemes are available online, and style upon style depending on the site you're playing.

Street Craps

In craps, players either bet against one another or against "the bank" based on the outcome of one or a series of dice rolls. Because the game requires little set up or equipment it is popular on the street. Though this "street craps" is almost always under illegal circumstances, it remains popular. All you need are a pair of six-sided die and a few players. In "street" craps, where players bet money against one another's rolls, the emphasis is placed on short-term small bets and side bets placed by on-lookers. The form of craps played in casinos, "bank craps" is a controlled and fast-paced betting game.

Craps Bets

There are four basic categories of bets in craps: single roll, multi roll, player bets, and line bets. Line bets are required of the shooter, while player bets are designed for onlookers and other players. The difference between single roll and multi roll bets is pretty obvious -- some bets are based on a single roll of the dice, while others take place over the course of one or several rounds.

The casino covers all player bets at a table and sets the odds on the various payouts. Players take turns rolling two dice, with the player rolling the dice known as the "shooter." The game is played in rounds, with the first roll of a new round called the "come-out roll." The game has a number of betting possibilities which you should study in detail before placing any actual bets -- it is enough to say, for now, that the total of the two dice thrown is the unknown being bet on.

Playing craps online is no different. You'll have to do your own leg work in terms of drink refills or cigarette lighting, but as everyone always says about Internet convenience, "You can play in your underwear".

Craps Superstitions

Craps is a superstitious game, subject to the same logical fallacies as any other casino game. Players "track" the outcome of the dice, assuming that a certain number is hot or cold based on how often it appears. As any smart gamer knows, the dice total is random and independent of the total before or after it.

Remember this when your wallet hand gets itchy because 11 hasn't come up in a few tosses. Just like any superstitious game, there are specific etiquette considerations which must be understood before casino play can begin. Players of online craps don't have to worry about this, another great benefit to online casino play. For instance, in a bricks and mortar casino, players are expected to throw the dice a certain distance and with a certain force, ensuring that it hits a certain wall of the gaming table. No worries online -- you can trust the java software to toss the dice properly.

If you're looking to play craps to impress a girl, online craps is probably not where you should start. But think what a little experience with betting could do for your confidence? And that could improve both games – the girl and the bank. Check out online craps for fun.
